The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came down from a mountain pass after relieving himself, and we had some dates in front of us on a shield. We invited him, and he ate with us without touching water.
أقبل رسول الله ﷺ من شعب من الجبل وقد قضى حاجته، وبين أيدينا تمر على ترس أو حجفة، فدعوناه، فأكل معنا وما مس ماء.
Reported by Abu Dawud (3762) and Ahmad (15272), and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (1160), all of them through routes from Abu Zubayr, from Jabir, who mentioned it.The wording of Ahmad is, "So we invited him to some ajwa dates that were before us on a shield, and he ate from them, and he had not performed wudu before eating from them."
