I was one of the people of the Suffah. One day the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called for a loaf of bread, broke it into a large bowl, poured hot water over it, then added some fat. He stirred it together, kneaded it well, and shaped it into a mound. Then he said, "Go and bring me ten men, you being the tenth."So I brought them, and he said, "Eat, and eat from the bottom of it, not from the top, for blessing descends from the top."They ate from it until they were satisfied.
Imam Ahmad narrated it (16006) from Itaab bin Ziyad Khurasani Marwazi, who said, Abdullah bin Mubarak narrated to us, Ibn Lahia informed us, Yazid bin Abu Habib narrated to me, that Rabia bin Yazid Dimashqi informed him, from Wathila bin Asqa, and he mentioned it.Haythami said in al-Majma (8/305), "Ibn Majah has a fragment of the end of it, and Ahmad narrated it and its narrators are reliable." Its isnad is hasan because of Ibn Lahia, about whom there is well known discussion, except that the narration of Abdullah bin Mubarak from him is hasan.Ibn Majah narrated it (3276) through the route of Umar bin Darfas, from Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Qasima, from Wathila bin Asqa, who said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took hold of the top of the thareed, and said, "Eat in the name of Allah from its sides, and leave its top alone, for the blessing comes from its top."Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Qasima Hajari Dimashqi had no one narrate from him except Umar bin Darfas, and no one declared him reliable. Busiri criticized the hadith on this basis, except that it was corroborated in the first isnad.
