Muslim narrated it in the Book of Drinks (2022:109) via Muhammad bin Amr bin Halhala, from Wahb bin Kaysan, from Umar bin Abu Salama, and he related it.Malik narrated it in Sifat al-Nabi ﷺ (32) from Abu Naeem Wahb bin Kaysan, who said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was brought some food, and his stepson Umar bin Salama was with him, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "Mention the name of Allah, and eat from what is in front of you."Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Foods (5378) from Abdullah bin Yusuf, who said, "Malik informed us with his chain, similarly."Ibn Abdul-Barr said in Tamhid (23/16), "This hadith, as found in Malik's version, appears disconnected in the Muwatta. But Khalid bin Mukhlad narrated it from Malik with a full chain, connecting it, so it is a connected, fully-chained hadith, because Abu Naeem heard it directly from Umar bin Abu Salama, and he had also met companions who were older than Umar bin Abu Salama."Hafiz said in Fath al-Bari (9/524), "This is how Malik's companions narrated it from him in the Muwatta, giving it the appearance of being disconnected. But Khalid bin Mukhlad and Yahya bin Salih Wahazi connected it, both saying, from Malik, from Wahb bin Kaysan, from Umar bin Abu Salama... He said, Bukhari only felt justified in including it, even though the well-preserved version from Malik is the disconnected one, because the preceding chain established the soundness of Wahb bin Kaysan's hearing from Umar bin Abu Salama. This shows that Malik shortened his chain by not stating explicitly that it was connected, when in fact it was originally connected. Perhaps he did narrate it as connected on one occasion, and that version was preserved from him by Khalid and Yahya bin Salih, both of whom are trustworthy. Daraqutni included this in al-Gharaib on their authority."I say, the connected chain of Bukhari was already presented earlier under the chapter on mentioning Allah's name over food and drink.
