He heard the Prophet ﷺ say, "When a man enters his house and mentions Allah upon entering and when he eats, Satan says, 'You have no place to spend the night, and no dinner.' But when he enters and does not mention Allah upon entering, Satan says, 'You have found a place to spend the night.' And when he does not mention Allah at his meal, Satan says, 'You have found both a place to spend the night and dinner.'"
أنه سمع النبي ﷺ يقول: إذا دخل الرجل بيته، فذكر الله عند دخوله وعند طعامه، قال الشيطان: لا مبيت لكم، ولا عشاء، وإذا دخل، فلم يذكر الله عند دخوله، قال الشيطان: أدركتم المبيت، وإذا لم يذكر الله عند طعامه، قال: أدركتم المبيت والعشاء.
Muslim reported it in the Book of Drinks (2018) from Muhammad bin Muthanna Anazi, who said, Dahhak, meaning Abu Asim, narrated to us, from Ibn Jurayj, who said, Abu Zubayr informed me, from Jabir bin Abdullah, and he related it.On this subject there is also a report from Umaya bin Makhshi, who was one of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting while a man was eating, and he did not mention the name of Allah until only one morsel of his food remained. When he raised it to his mouth, he said, "In the name of Allah, at its beginning and at its end." The Prophet ﷺ laughed and then said, "Satan kept eating with him, but when he mentioned the name of Allah, mighty and majestic, Satan vomited up everything in his stomach."Abu Dawud reported it in the Book of Manners (3768), and Nasai reported it in Kubra (6725), both of them through different routes from Jabir bin Subh, who said, Muthanna bin Abdul-Rahman Khuzai narrated to us, from his uncle Umaya bin Makhshi, and he related it. Muthanna bin Abdul-Rahman Khuzai is majhul (unknown), as Ibn Madini and others have said.
