The Prophet ﷺ said, "A man should not make another man get up from his seat in order to sit in it himself. Rather, make room for one another, and Allah will make room for you."
عن النبي ﷺ قال: لا يقيم الرجل الرجل من مجلسه ثم يجلس فيه، ولكن افسحوا يفسح الله لكم.
Ahmad (10776) narrated it from Abdul-Malik bin Amr, that is, Aqdi, who said, Fulayh narrated to us, from Ayub, from Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Sasaa, from Yaqub bin Abu Yaqub, from Abu Hurairah, who said, then he mentioned it.Its isnad is hasan because of Fulayh bin Sulayman, for there is disagreement about him, though his hadith is graded hasan outside matters of legal rulings, and this particular hadith of his has a sahih basis. Ayub bin Abdul-Rahman and Yaqub bin Abu Yaqub are also both graded hasan in their hadith. The meaning of the hadith is clear on its face, except in the case where the sitting place is reserved specifically for the teacher, or for the reciters, or for certain designated people. If someone else sits there, it is permissible to have him get up from it so that the one for whom it was designated may sit in his place.
