The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Part of revering Allah is honoring an elderly Muslim with grey hair, honoring one who carries the Quran without going to extremes in it or turning away from it, and honoring a just ruler."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: إن من إجلال الله إكرام ذي الشيبة المسلم وحامل القرآن غير الغالي فيه والجافي عنه، وإكرام ذي السلطان المقسط.
Abu Dawud (4843) narrated it from Ishaq bin Ibrahim Sawwaf, from Abdullah bin Humran, who said, Awf bin Abu Jameela informed us, from Ziyad bin Mikhraq, from Abu Kinana, from Abu Musa, and he related it.Its isnad is hasan because of Abdullah bin Humran, for he is truthful, while the rest of its narrators are reliable.On this subject there is also what has been narrated from Maymun bin Abu Shabib, that a beggar once passed by Ayesha and she gave him a piece of bread. Then a man passed by her wearing fine clothes and of good appearance, so she seated him and he ate. When she was asked about this, she said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Treat people according to their status.'"Muslim mentioned it in the introduction with a suspended chain, and Abu Dawud (4842), Abu Yaala (4826), and Abu Naeem in Hilyah (4/379) all connected it through the route of Yahya bin Yaman, who said, Sufyan narrated to us, from Habib bin Abu Thabit, from Maymun bin Abu Shabib, who said, and he related it. There is a break in its isnad.Abu Dawud said following the hadith, "Maymun did not meet Ayesha." Abu Hatim was asked whether the report of Maymun bin Abu Shabib from Ayesha is connected, and he said, "No." Bayhaqi said in Shuab (10489), "It is disconnected."It has another route, narrated from Yahya bin Yaman, who said, Sufyan narrated to us, from Usama bin Zayd, from Umar bin Mikhraq, who said, "A man of good appearance came in to see Ayesha, so she invited him and he sat with her. Then another man passed by, and she gave him a piece of bread. When she was asked about this, she said," and he related the hadith. Bayhaqi said, "No one narrated it from Sufyan except Yahya bin Yaman, and the report of Umar bin Mikhraq from Ayesha is disconnected."As for what has been narrated from the Prophet ﷺ, "When a noble man of a people comes to you, honor him," it has been narrated through the hadith of Abdullah bin Umar, Jareer bin Abdullah Bajali, Jabir bin Abdullah, Abu Hurairah, Abdullah bin Abbas, Muaz bin Jabal, Adi bin Hatim, Anas bin Malik, Abu Rashid Abdul-Rahman bin Abd, and others, but none of these meets the conditions of Jami Kamil, because all their isnads are daif.
