Miqdad bin Aswad reported,

Miqdad reported, "Two companions and I came forward, and our hearing and sight had nearly failed us from sheer hunger and exhaustion. We began offering ourselves to the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, but none of them would take us in. So we came to the Prophet ﷺ, and he took us home with him. There he had three goats, and the Prophet ﷺ said, 'Milk these and divide the milk among us.'So we would milk them, and each of us would drink his share, and we would set aside the Prophet's share for him. He would come at night and give a greeting that would not wake anyone sleeping but would be heard by anyone awake. Then he would go to the mosque and pray, then return to his drink and drink it.One night Satan came to me after I had already drunk my share, and he whispered, 'Muhammad goes to the Ansar, and they give him gifts and he gets food from them. He has no need of this little drink.' So I went to it and drank it. But once it had settled in my stomach and I knew there was no way to retrieve it, Satan made me regret it. He said, 'Woe to you, what have you done? You have drunk Muhammad's drink. He will come, not find it, and will pray against you, and you will perish, losing both this world and the next.'I had on me a small cloak that, when I pulled it over my feet, left my head exposed, and when I pulled it over my head, left my feet exposed. Sleep would not come to me, while my two companions slept, since they had not done what I had done. The Prophet ﷺ came and greeted as he usually did, then went to the mosque and prayed, then came to his drink and uncovered it, but found nothing in it. He raised his head to the sky, and I thought, 'Now he will pray against me and I am ruined.'But he said, 'Allah, feed whoever has fed me, and give drink to whoever has given me drink.'So I made for my cloak and tied it tightly around me, took the knife, and went out to the goats to see which was the fattest, so I could slaughter it for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. But I found her udder was full of milk, and indeed all of them were full. I took a vessel belonging to the household of Muhammad ﷺ which they had never expected to milk into, and I milked into it until the foam rose to the top. Then I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he asked, 'Have you had your drink tonight?'I said, 'Messenger of Allah, drink.'So he drank, then handed it to me.I said again, 'Messenger of Allah, drink.'So he drank, then handed it to me.When I knew that the Prophet ﷺ had drunk his fill and that his prayer for me had been answered, I laughed until I fell to the ground. The Prophet ﷺ said, 'One of your antics, Miqdad?'I said, 'Messenger of Allah, this and this happened, and I did such and such.'The Prophet ﷺ said, 'This is nothing but a mercy from Allah. Why did you not let me know so we could wake our two companions and they could share in it?'I replied, 'By the One who sent you with the truth, so long as I got it and you got it with me, I do not care who else among the people gets it.'"

Sahih
