A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "So-and-so owns a date palm inside my garden, and he has been causing me trouble. The location of his palm is harmful to me."So the Prophet ﷺ sent for the man and said to him, "Sell me your palm that stands in so-and-so's garden."He replied, "No."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then give it to me as a gift."He replied, "No."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then sell it to me in exchange for a palm in Paradise."He replied, "No."The Prophet ﷺ then said, "I have never seen anyone more miserly than you, except the one who is miserly with the greeting of peace."
أن رجلا أتى النبي ﷺ فقال: إن لفلان في حائطي عذقا، وإنه قد آذاني وشر علي مكان عزقه. فأرسل إليه النبي ﷺ فقال: بعني عذقك الذي في حائط فلان. قال: لا قال: فهبه لي. قال: لا. قال: فبعنيه بعدق في الجنة. قال: لا. فقال النبي ﷺ: ما رأيت الذي هو أبخل منك إلا الذي يبخل بالسلام.
Ahmad (14517) narrated it from Abu Amir Aqadi, who said, Zuhayr narrated to us, from Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqeel, from Jabir, and he related it. Its chain is hasan, because of the discussion about Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqeel, except that his hadith is hasan.It was also narrated from Abu Hurairah, who said, "The stingiest of people is the one who is too stingy to give salam, and the most helpless of people is the one who is too helpless to pray." Bukhari narrated it in Adab al-Mufrad (1042) from Ismail bin Abban, who said, Ali bin Mushir narrated to us, from Asim, from Abu Uthman, from Abu Hurairah, who said, and he related it as a stopped report.Abu Yaala (6449m) narrated it, and from his route Ibn Hibban (4498) and Bayhaqi in Shuab (8394), from Muhammad bin Bakkar, who said, Ismail bin Zakariya narrated to us, from Asim Ahwal, in the same manner, as a stopped report.However, Tabarani narrated it in Awsat, Majma Bahrayn (3030), and Bayhaqi in Shuab (8392), both by way of Masruq bin Marzuban, who said, Hafs bin Ghiyath narrated to us, from Asim Ahwal, from Abu Uthman Nahdi, from Abu Hurairah, as a raised report.Tabarani said, "No one narrated this hadith from Asim except Hafs, and Masruq alone transmitted it, and it is not narrated from the Prophet ﷺ except by this chain," meaning as a raised report.Masruq bin Marzuban is al-Kindi, Abu Saeed al-Kufi. Salih bin Muhammad said of him, "Truthful." Abu Hatim said, "He is not strong, his hadith is written down." He alone transmitted it as a raised report, as Tabarani said, so the correct view is that it is a stopped report, because its narrators are more numerous and more reliable in memory.
