When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived in Medina, people rushed out toward him, and it was said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has arrived." I came along with the crowd to look at him, and when I clearly saw the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I knew that his face was not the face of a liar. The first thing he said was, "People, spread the greeting of peace, feed others, and pray while people are asleep, and you will enter Paradise in peace."
Tirmidhi (2485), Ibn Majah (1334), Ahmad (23784), and Hakim (4/159-160) all narrated it through Yahya bin Saeed, from Awf bin Abu Jameela Arabi, from Zurara bin Awfa, from Abdullah bin Salam, who related it. The wording given here is that of Tirmidhi. Tirmidhi said, "This is a sahih hadith," and Hakim said, "This is a hadith with a sahih chain of transmission." Hakim also narrated it (3/13) through another route from Awf bin Abu Jameela, and said, "Sahih according to the criteria of the two Shaikhs."
