The Prophet ﷺ passed by a group of people in the mosque, or in a gathering, who were unsheathing a sword among themselves and passing it around without sheathing it. He said, "May Allah curse whoever does that. Did I not forbid you from this? When you unsheathe a sword, let the man sheathe it, then pass it on like that."
أن النبي ﷺ مر على قوم في المسجد أوفي المجلس، يسلون سيفا بينهم يتعاطونه بينهم غير معمود، فقال: لعن الله من يفعل ذلك، أو لم أزجركم عن هذا؟ فإذا سللتم السيف فليعمده الرجل، ثم ليعطه كذلك.
Imam Ahmad (14742), Ibn Saad (353/3), Ibn Qani in Mujam Sahabah (1/102), and Tabarani in Al-Kabir (2/30) all narrated it through the route of Ibn Lahia, who said, Abu Zubayr narrated to us, from Jabir, that Bunnah Juhani informed him, and he related it.The phrase "from Jabir" is missing from the printed edition of the Musnad, but it is confirmed in Ghayat al-Maqsad and other sources.Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Ibn Lahia, since he had weak memory, but Abdullah bin Wahb narrated from him, as Ibn Abdul-Barr mentioned in Al-Istiab, in the biography of Bunnah, and his narration from Ibn Lahia is hasan. Ibn Abdul-Barr said, Ibn Wahb is the most reliable of people regarding Ibn Lahia.I say, this is as he said. Bunnah Juhani is a companion. Abbas Duri mentioned, from Ibn Main, that he was asked about this hadith, and he said, "It is actually Bunayyih, as Ibn Wahb said."Both hadiths are sahih, and neither one invalidates the other. Ibn Main acknowledged that it is the hadith of Bunnah, except that he called him Bunayyih.
