The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came upon a group of people passing around an unsheathed sword. He said, "May Allah curse whoever does this. Have I not forbidden this?" Then he said, "When one of you draws his sword to look at it and wishes to hand it to his brother, let him sheathe it first, then pass it to him."
أتى رسول الله ﷺ على قوم يتعاطون سيفا مسلولا، فقال: لعن الله من فعل هذا، أوليس قد نهيت عن هذا؟ ثم قال: إذا سل أحدكم سيفه، فنظر إليه، فأراد أن يناوله أخاه، فليعمده، ثم يناوله إياه.
Imam Ahmad narrated it (20429) from Abu Nadr and Affan, who said, Mubarak narrated to us, from Hasan, from Abu Bakra. Affan said in his account, Mubarak narrated to us, saying, I heard Hasan say, Abu Bakra informed me, saying, and then he related it.Hakim also reported it (4/323) through another route from Mubarak bin Fadala, with the same wording, and said, "This is a hadith sahih in isnad."Its isnad is hasan because of Mubarak, who is Ibn Fadala, for his hadith is hasan when he explicitly states that he heard directly, and this is the case here. Ibn Hajar judged its isnad good in Fath al-Bari (13/25).
