Abdullah bin Umar reported,

Umar bin Khattab saw a silk garment being sold at the door of the mosque, so he said, "Messenger of Allah, why don't you buy this garment and wear it on Fridays and when delegations come to visit you?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Only one who has no share in the Hereafter wears this."Later, some such garments were brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he gave one of them to Umar bin Khattab.Umar said, "Messenger of Allah, are you giving this to me to wear, when you said about the garment of Utarid what you said?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ answered, "I did not give it to you so that you would wear it."So Umar gave it to a polytheist brother of his in Mecca. In a narration of Bukhari, "I did not give it to you to wear, but rather to sell or to give away as clothing."
