I came to Madinah, and Abdullah bin Umar came to me and asked, "Do you know why I have come to you?"I replied, "No."He said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Whoever wishes to maintain ties with his father in his grave, let him maintain ties with his father's brothers after him.' There was a bond of brotherhood and affection between Abu Umar and your father, and I wished to keep that bond alive."

Narrated by Abu Yaala (5669), and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (432), both through the route of Hudba bin Khalid, who said, Hazm bin Abu Hazm narrated to us, from Thabit Bunani, from Abu Burda (who is the son of Abu Musa Ashari), and he related it. Its isnad is sahih. On this subject there is also a report from Abu Usayd Malik bin Rabia Saadi, who said, "While we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, a man from Banu Salama came to him and said, 'Messenger of Allah, is there anything left of devotion to my parents that I can still show them after their death?' He said, 'Yes, praying for them, seeking forgiveness for them, fulfilling their pledges after they are gone, maintaining ties of kinship that can only be maintained through them, and honoring their friends.'"This was narrated by Abu Dawud (5142), Ibn Majah (3664), Ahmad (16059), and Bukhari in Adab al-Mufrad (35). Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (418), and so did Hakim (4/154), all of them through routes going back to Abdul-Rahman bin Sulayman Ibn Ghusayl, from Usayd bin Ali bin Ubayd, freedman of Banu Saada, from his father, from Abu Usayd Malik bin Rabia Saadi, and he related it.In its isnad is Ali bin Ubayd, from whom no one narrated except his son Usayd bin Ali, and no one has affirmed his reliability except that Ibn Hibban mentioned him among his trustworthy narrators, following his usual practice. For this reason Dhahabi said in al-Mizan, "He is not known." As for Hakim, he said, "This is a hadith sahih in its isnad."
