The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah instructs you to honor your mothers," repeating it three times. "Allah instructs you to honor your fathers. Allah instructs you to honor your relatives in order of closeness."
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال: إن الله يوصيكم بأمهاتكم- ثلاثا-، إن الله يوصيكم بآبائكم، إن الله يوصيكم بالأقرب فالأقرب.
Ibn Majah (3661) narrated it, and this is his wording, as did Ahmad (17187) and Hakim (4/151), all of them through various routes from Ismail bin Ayyash, from Buhayr bin Saad, from Khalid bin Madan, from Miqdam bin Maad Yakrib, who related it.Its chain of transmission is hasan on account of Ismail bin Ayyash, for his hadith is hasan when he narrates from the people of Syria, and this is one of those cases. It has also been corroborated, as Ahmad (17184) and Bukhari in Adab al-Mufrad (60) both narrated it through the route of Baqiyyah, who said, "Buhayr bin Saad narrated it to us," with the same content.Tabarani also narrated it in Al-Kabir (20/274) through another route, from Miqdam bin Maad Yakrib, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood among the people, praised Allah and glorified Him, then said, "Allah truly enjoins upon you good treatment of women, Allah truly enjoins upon you good treatment of women, for they are your mothers, your daughters, and your maternal aunts. A man from the People of the Book marries a woman, and before her hands are even bound with a thread, neither of them desires to part from the other." Its chain of transmission is sahih.
