Abu Idris reported,

He entered the mosque one day with the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the early days of Umar bin Khattab's caliphate. He said, "I sat in a gathering where there were more than twenty of them, all narrating the hadith of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. In the circle was a young man, dark-skinned, sweet in speech, and radiant in countenance, the youngest of the group. Whenever something in a hadith was unclear to them, they would defer to him, and he would clarify it for them."While Aizullah was sitting with them in their circle, the call to prayer was given, which dispersed the gathering. He swore to me that no night had ever passed over him, neither one of severe illness nor of pressing need, that felt longer than that night, as he longed for morning so he could meet them again.He said, "When I went to the mosque the next morning, I came and went but did not find any of them. Then I went earlier than usual at midday, coming and going, when suddenly I came upon the young man whom they had been referring to with their hadith the day before, praying beside one of the pillars in the mosque. So Aizullah went to the pillar in front of him, and when the young man finished his prayer, he leaned his back against it. I kept looking at him until he realized I needed something from him."He said, "I asked, 'Have you finished your prayer, may Allah make you prosper?'The young man replied, 'Yes.'I stood up and sat down facing him, clasping my knees. Neither did he speak to me, nor did I begin any conversation, until I thought the next prayer would separate us."He said, "I said, 'May Allah make you prosper, speak to me. By Allah, I love you and love your speech.'He asked, 'By Allah, do you really love me and love my speech?'I replied, 'By Allah, beside whom there is no god, I love you and love your speech.'The young man said, 'Why do you love me and love my speech? By Allah, there is no kinship between you and me, nor have I given you any wealth.'I answered, 'I love you for the sake of the majesty of Allah.'He said to me, 'You truly love me for the sake of the majesty of Allah?'I said to him, 'By Allah, I love you for the sake of the majesty of Allah.'"He said, "Then he took hold of the cloth wrapped around me and pulled it toward him until he drew me close to him, then said, 'Rejoice, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Those who love one another for the sake of the majesty of Allah will be in the shade of Allah's throne on a day when there is no shade but His shade."'When he had narrated this hadith to me, the call to prayer was given. I asked, 'Who are you, servant of Allah?'He said, 'Muaz bin Jabal.'"And Aizullah used to narrate the hadith of Muaz bin Jabal frequently.

عن أبي إدريس عائذ الله بن عبد الله

أنه دخل المسجد يوما مع أصحاب رسول الله ﷺ كانوا أول إمارة عمر بن الخطاب، قال: فجلست مجلسا فيه بضعة وعشرون كلهم يذكرون حديث رسول الله ﷺ وفي الحلقة فتى شاب شديد الأدمة حلو المنطق وضيء، وهو أشب القوم شبابا فإذا اشتبه عليهم من الحديث شيء ردوه إليه فحدثهم حديثهم فبينما عائذ الله جالس معهم في حلقتهم أقيمت الصلاة ففرقت بينهم فأقسم لي ما مرت عليه ليلة من الدهر لا مرض شديد سقمه، ولا حاجة مهمة أطولت عليه من تلك الليلة رجاء أن يصبح فألقاهم قال: فلما غدا إلى المسجد فأقبل، وأدبر فلم يصادف منهم أحدا، ثم هجر الرواح فأقبل وأدبر فإذا هو بالفتى الذي كان بالأمس يشيرون إليه بحديثهم يصلي إلى أسطوانة في المسجد فقام عائذ الله إلى الأسطوانة التي بين يديه فلما قضى صلاته أسند ظهره إليها فجعلت أنظر إليه حتى علم أن لي إليه حاجة قال: قلت قد صليت أصلحك الله؟ فقال الفتى: نعم، قلت: فقمت فجلست مقابله محتبيا لا هو يحدثني شيئا ولا أنا أبدأه شيء حتى ظننت أن الصلاة مفرقة بيننا، قال: قلت: أصلحك الله حدثني فوالله إني لأحبك وأحب حديثك قال: آلله إنك لتحبني وتحب حديثي؟ قلت: والله الذي لا إله إلا هو إني لأحبك وأحب حديثك، فقال الفتى: لم تحبني وتحب حديثي والله ما بيني وبينك قرابة ولا أعطيتك مالا؟ قال: قلت: أحبك من جلال الله، فقال له: إنك لتحبني من جلال الله؟ قلت له: والله لأحبك من جلال الله، قال: فأخذ بحبوتي فبسطها إليه حتى أدناني منه ثم قال: أبشر فإني سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: إن الذين يتحابون بجلال الله في ظل عرش الله يوم لا ظل إلا ظله. فلما حدثني بهذا الحديث أقيمت الصلاة قال: قلت من أنت يا عبد الله؟ قال: معاذ بن جبل، وكان عائذ الله يكثر أن يحدث حديث معاذ بن جبل.
