Muawiya bin Abu Sufyan reported,

I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Whoever loves that men should stand before him in respect, let him take his seat in the Fire."

Commentary

Zia-ur-Rahman Azami

Abu Dawud (5229) and Tirmidhi (2755) both narrated it from Habib bin Shaheed, from Abu Majliz, who said, "Muawiya came out to Ibn Zubayr and Ibn Amir. Ibn Amir stood up for him, while Ibn Zubayr remained seated. Muawiya said to Ibn Amir, 'Sit down, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say' (then he mentioned the hadith)."
