The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "By the One in whose hand my soul rests, Allah does not bestow His mercy except upon the merciful."They said, "Messenger of Allah, every one of us shows mercy."He replied, "It is not the mercy one of you shows to his companion, but mercy toward all people."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: والذي نفسي بيده، لا يضع الله رحمته إلا على رحيم، قالوا: يا رسول الله، كلنا يرحم، قال: ليس برحمة أحدكم صاحبه يرحم الناس كافة.

Reported by Abu Yaala (4258) and Bayhaqi in Shuab (10549), both through the route of Muhammad bin Ishaq, from Yazid bin Abu Habib, from Sinan bin Saad Kindi, from Anas bin Malik, who said the following.Sinan bin Saad Kindi is a subject of disagreement among scholars, and Muhammad bin Ishaq was a mudallis who narrated this using anaan (an ambiguous transmission formula).Bayhaqi also reported it in Shuab (10548) through the route of Muhammad bin Sulayman Masissi, known as Luwayn, who said, Abdul-Mumin Sadusi (that is, Ibn Ubaydullah Basri) told us, from Akhshan Sadusi, from Anas bin Malik, and he related something similar.No one narrated from Akhshan Sadusi except Abdul-Mumin. Ibn Hibban mentioned him among the trustworthy narrators, while Mawsili said, "His hadith is not well established." He has an entry in Tajil and Lisan.Taken together, these two chains raise the hadith to the level of hasan.
