This was narrated by Ibn Qani in Muajam al-Sahabah (1/269), Tabarani in al-Kabir (6/223) and in al-Awsat [Majma al-Bahrain (2927)], and Hakim (1/48), all of them through the route of Ahmad bin Yunus, who said, Fudayl bin Iyad told us, from Muhammad bin Thawr (that is, al-Sanani), from Mamar, from Abu Hazim, from Sahl bin Saad, who said, and then he mentioned it.Hakim said, "This is a hadith sahih in isnad." Haythami said in al-Majma (8/188), "Tabarani narrated it and its narrators are trustworthy." Its isnad is sahih, and Hafiz Iraqi also graded it sahih. As for his saying "safsafiha," al-safsaf means the inferior part of anything, and a trivial matter. As for what was narrated from Abu Hurairah, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said, "The generous person is close to Allah, close to Paradise, close to people, far from the Fire, while the miser is far from Allah, far from Paradise, far from people, close to the Fire, and an ignorant generous person is more beloved to Allah than a stingy worshipper," this is daif.Tirmidhi said, "This is a gharib hadith, we do not know it from the hadith of Yahya bin Saeed, from al-Araj, from Abu Hurairah, except through the hadith of Saeed bin Muhammad, and Saeed bin Muhammad has been contradicted in narrating this hadith from Yahya bin Saeed, for it is only narrated from Yahya bin Saeed, from Ayesha, as something mursal."I say, Saeed bin Muhammad al-Warraq al-Thaqafi al-Kufi, the majority of the people of knowledge hold that he is daif, and Daraqutni said, "Discarded (matruk)," and Abu Hatim said, "This is a munkar hadith" [Ilal al-Hadith (2353)]. Ibn Jawzi included it in al-Mawduat (1104).
