Sahl bin Saad reported,

A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ with a burdah.Sahl asked the people, "Do you know what a burdah is?"They replied, "It is a shamlah."Sahl said, "It is a woven shamlah with its border still attached."The woman said, "Messenger of Allah, I have woven this to clothe you with it."The Prophet ﷺ took it, being in need of it, and put it on. One of the companions saw him wearing it and said, "Messenger of Allah, how beautiful this is. Give it to me to wear."He replied, "Yes."When the Prophet ﷺ got up, his companions reproached the man, saying, "You did not do well. You saw the Prophet ﷺ take it because he needed it, then you asked him for it, knowing that he is never asked for something and refuses it."The man said, "I hoped for its blessing, since the Prophet ﷺ had worn it, hoping that I might be shrouded in it."
