I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Whoever gives a gift of milk or silver, or guides someone along a path, will have a reward equal to freeing a slave."
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: من منح منيحة لبن أو ورق أو هدى زقاقا كان له مثل عتق رقبة.
Tirmidhi (1957), Ahmad (18516), and Ibn Hibban (5096), who graded it sahih, all reported it through various routes from Talha bin Musarrif, who said, "I heard Abdul-Rahman bin Awsaja say, I heard Bara bin Azib," and he related it.The wording given here follows Tirmidhi and Ibn Hibban, and its chain of transmission is sahih. Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan sahih gharib hadith."His saying, "guided someone through an alley," means he showed the way to someone who was lost or blind. His saying, "gave a loan of silver," refers to lending dirhams, as Tirmidhi explained.
