The Prophet ﷺ used to use his right hand for his food, drink, and clothing, and his left hand for everything else.
ﷺ و أن النبي ﷺ كان يجعل يمينه لطعامه وشرابه وثيابه، ويجعل شماله لما سوى ذلك.
Abu Dawud (32) narrated it from Muhammad bin Adam bin Sulayman Masissi, who said, Ibn Abu Zaida narrated to us, he said, Abu Ayub, meaning Afriqi, narrated to me, from Asim, from Musayab bin Rafi and Mabad, that Haritha bin Wahb Khuzai said, Hafsa narrated to me, and he related it.Ibn Hibban (5227) and Hakim (4/109) graded it sahih, and Hakim said, "This is a sahih hadith, and the two of them did not narrate it."Dhahabi took issue with this and said, "There is an unknown narrator in its chain." It is not clear to me whom he meant by this statement, for all its narrators are known, ranging from trustworthy to reliable, except Abu Ayub Afriqi, who is Abdullah bin Ali Afriqi. Abu Zura considered him weak and said, "There is something objectionable in his hadith, he is not solid." But Ibn Main said, "There is no harm in him." Someone like him, his hadith does not fall below the level of hasan, so long as he does not contradict others. Asim is Ibn Bahdala, Abu Bakr Muqri, reliable but with some lapses. As for what has been narrated from Ayesha, may Allah be pleased with her, that she said, "The right hand of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was for his purification and his food, while his left hand was for relieving himself and whatever else was unclean," this has a disconnected chain. Abu Dawud (33) narrated it, saying, Abu Tuba Rabi bin Nafi narrated to us, Isa bin Yunus narrated to me, from Ibn Abu Aruba, from Abu Mashar, from Ibrahim, from her.Abu Mashar is Ziyad bin Kulayb Hanzali. Abu Hatim criticized him, while others considered him trustworthy. Ibrahim is Ibn Yazid Nakhai the jurist, who did not hear from Ayesha, because he was born in the year 46 AH, while Ayesha died in the year 57 AH according to the correct view.
