The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by a man from the Ansar who was admonishing his brother about modesty. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Leave him alone, for modesty is part of faith."In another wording, the Prophet ﷺ passed by a man who was reproaching his brother about modesty, saying, "You are so modest," as though to say, "It has harmed you." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Leave him alone, for modesty is part of faith."
أن رسول الله ﷺ مر على رجل من الأنصار، وهو يعظ أخاه في الحياء، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: دعه فإن الحياء من الإيمان. وفي لفظ: مر النبي ﷺ على رجل، وهو يعاتب أخاه في الحياء، يقول: إنك لتستحيي، حتى كأنه يقول: قد أضر بك، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: دعه، فإن الحياء من الإيمان.
Malik narrated it in Husn al-Khuluq (10) from Ibn Shihab, from Salim bin Abdullah, from Abdullah bin Umar, and he related it.Bukhari narrated it in al-Iman (24) through Malik, with the same wording.Muslim narrated it in al-Iman (36) through Ibn Uyayna and Maamar, from Zuhri, with the same wording.Bukhari narrated it in al-Adab (6118) through Abdul-Aziz bin Abu Salama, from Ibn Shihab, and he related it with the second wording.
