The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Through his good character, a man attains the rank of one who stands in prayer through the night."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: إن الرجل ليدرك بحسن خلقه درجة القائم بالليل.
Bukhari narrated it in Adab al-Mufrad (284) from Ali bin Abdullah, who said, Fudayl bin Sulayman Numayri narrated to us, from Salih bin Khawwat bin Salih bin Khawwat bin Jubayr, from Muhammad bin Yahya bin Habban, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurairah, who said, then he related it. Salih bin Khawwat bin Salih was not confirmed as reliable by anyone other than Ibn Hibban, though the hadith has come through another route that strengthens it.Hakim narrated it (1/60) through the route of Ibrahim bin Mustamirr Uruqi, Habban bin Hilal narrated to us, Hammad bin Salama narrated to us, from Budayl, from Ataa, from Abu Hurairah, who said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah causes a servant to attain, through his good character, the rank of one who fasts and prays." Its chain is hasan because of Ibrahim bin Mustamirr Uruqi, for he is hasan al-hadith.Something similar in meaning was narrated from Ayesha, who said, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "The believer attains, through his good character, the rank of one who fasts and prays through the night." Abu Dawud narrated it (4798) from Qutayba bin Saeed, Yaqub, meaning Iskandarani, narrated to us, from Amr, from Muttalib, from Ayesha, who related it. Its chain is disconnected because Muttalib is Ibn Abdullah bin Hantab, who never met Ayesha, as Bukhari and Abu Hatim have stated.
