Uqba said, "I was walking with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he said, 'Uqba, recite.'I asked, 'What should I recite, Messenger of Allah?'He said nothing to me. Then he said again, 'Uqba, recite.'I asked, 'What should I recite, Messenger of Allah?'Again he said nothing to me, so I prayed, 'Allah, bring him back to me.'Then he said, 'Uqba, recite.'I asked, 'What should I recite, Messenger of Allah?'He said, 'Say, I seek refuge with the Lord of the daybreak' [Falaq 113:1].So I recited it through to the end. Then he said, 'Recite.'I asked, 'What should I recite, Messenger of Allah?'He said, 'Say, I seek refuge with the Lord of mankind' [Nas 114:1].So I recited it through to the end.At that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'No one has ever asked with anything like these two, and no one has ever sought refuge with anything like these two.'"
Nasai (5438) narrated it from Qutayba, who said, Layth narrated to us, from Ibn Ajlan, from Saeed Maqburi, from Uqba bin Amir, who said, and he mentioned it.Darimi (5438) also narrated it from Ahmad bin Abdullah, from Layth with his chain, but it does not mention "Say, I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind" [Nas 114:1].Its chain is hasan because of Ibn Ajlan, for he is hasan al-hadith.
