Muslim narrated it in the Book of Mosques (622) through several routes from Ismail bin Jafar, from Ala bin Abdul-Rahman, that he entered upon Anas bin Malik in his house in Basra, and mentioned it.His saying, "those who are heedless of their prayer" [Maun 107:5] - he did not say "heedless in their prayer."Ata bin Dinar said, "Praise be to Allah, who said, "heedless of their prayer" [Maun 107:5], and did not say 'heedless in their prayer.'"His saying, "those who show off" [Maun 107:6], means they do a deed so that people will see it, not for Allah's sake . This is another description of the hypocrites, as mentioned in Surah Nisa, "and when they stand for prayer, they stand lazily, showing off to the people" [Nisa 4:142], meaning that if he prays, he prays only for show, and if he misses the prayer, he feels no regret.His saying, "and withhold assistance" [Maun 107:7], refers to charity, zakat, and the lending of goods, because "maun" refers to helping others with money. Maun also refers to small everyday items, such as water, salt, and fire. This is another description of the hypocrites, who are stingy about helping others even with water, salt, and fire.
