The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah grants the wrongdoer respite, but when He finally seizes him, He does not let him escape."Then he recited, "Such is the seizure of your Lord when He seizes the towns while they are doing wrong. Indeed, His seizure is painful and severe" [Hud 11:102].
قال رسول الله ﷺ: إن الله ليملي للظالم، حتى إذا أخذه لم يفلته قال: ثم قرأ: {وكذلك أخذ ربك إذا أخذ القرى وهي ظالمة إن أخذه أليم شديد}.
Bukhari narrated it in the Tafsir (4686), and Muslim in the Righteousness, Kinship, and Manners (2583), both of them through Abu Muawiya, who said, Burayd bin Abu Burda told us, from Abu Burda, from Abu Musa, who said, and then he mentioned it. The wording given is Bukhari's, and Muslim's wording is similar.
