It was revealed to the Prophet ﷺ, "And do not obey every worthless habitual swearer, a slanderer, going about with malicious gossip" [Qalam 68:10–11]. He said, "We could not identify who was meant until Allah revealed to the Prophet ﷺ, "and moreover, ignoble of birth" [Qalam 68:13]. Then we knew him, for he had a mark hanging on him like the wattle of a goat."
في قوله تعالى: {بعد ذلك زنيم}

Ibn Jareer narrated it in his Tafsir (23/166) from Husayn bin Ali Sadai, who said, Ali bin Asim narrated to us, who said, Dawud bin Abu Hind narrated to us, from Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas, and he mentioned it.Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Ali bin Asim, for there is some discussion about him, but what he narrated has a basis, so there is no harm in grading it hasan, and this is one such case.His statement, "so we recognized him," refers to a man from Quraysh, as in the previous hadith. They said he was Walid bin Mughira, because he had abundant wealth and many sons, and his father did not acknowledge him as his son until eighteen years after his birth. The description mentioned in this surah, in the words of the Most High, "Because he has wealth and children. When Our verses are recited to him, he says, 'Tales of old.'" [Muddaththir 74:14–15] is the same person referred to in Surah Muddaththir [11–15], in the words of the Most High, "Leave Me with the one I created alone, and to whom I gave abundant wealth, and children who are present with him, and for whom I smoothed the way, then he desires that I give him more" [Muddaththir 74:11–15].The one referred to in this passage is Walid bin Mughira Makhzumi, one of the chiefs of Quraysh, and there is no disagreement about this. It has come in a sahih hadith that the people of the Fire include every crude, coarse, and arrogant person.
