They said, "Messenger of Allah, when we are with you we are in one state, but when we leave you we are in another, and we fear that this is hypocrisy."The Prophet ﷺ asked them, "How are you with your Lord?"They replied, "Allah is our Lord in private and in public."He asked, "How are you with your Prophet?"They replied, "You are our Prophet in private and in public."He said, "That is not hypocrisy."
قالوا: يا رسول الله، إنا نكون عندك على حال، فإذا فارقناك كنا على غيره، فنخاف أن يكون ذلك النفاق، فقال لهم النبي ﷺ: كيف أنتم وربكم؟ قالوا: الله ربنا في السر والعلانية، قال: كيف أنتم ونبيكم؟ قالوا: أنت نبينا في السر والعلانية. قال: ليس ذلك النفاق.

It was narrated by Abd bin Humayd (1377), and this is his wording, by Bazzar (6904), and by Abu Yaala (3396), all of them through routes from Harith bin Ubayd, from Thabit, from Anas, who said, then he mentioned it. Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Harith bin Ubayd, for his hadith is hasan.
