Regarding "Prophet, why do you forbid yourself what Allah has made lawful for you?" [Tahrim 66:1], he said, "This was revealed concerning his concubine."
{يأيها النبي لم تحرم ما أحل الله لك} قال: نزلت هذه في سريته.
Bazzar narrated it (4946), and this is his wording, and Tabarani in Al-Kabir (11/86), both through routes from Abdullah bin Raja, from Israil, from Muslim (that is, Ibn Imran Batin), from Mujahid, from Ibn Abbas, and he related it. Its isnad is hasan because of Abdullah bin Raja, who is Ghudani, for he is hasan al-hadith.The conclusion regarding it is that there is no reason all these causes could not together be the occasion for the revelation of the verse of prohibition. Some of the commentators held this view. Though the soundest of them is the drinking of honey at Zaynab's house, from the hadith of Hajjaj bin Muhammad, from Ibn Jurayj, as mentioned before.Nasai said, the isnad of Hajjaj's hadith is sahih, extremely good. Asili said, Hajjaj's hadith is more sahih. It is more fitting with the apparent meaning of the Book, and more complete in benefit, as the judge said. See Sharh Muslim by Nawawi.
