We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the early part of the day when a group of people came to him, barefoot and nearly naked, wrapped in striped cloaks or woolen garments, with swords slung across their shoulders. Most of them, in fact all of them, were from the tribe of Mudar. The face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ changed color when he saw the destitution they were in. He entered his house, then came out and ordered Bilal to call the adhan and the iqamah. He prayed, then delivered a sermon and recited, "People, fear your Lord who created you from a single soul" to the end of the verse, "Indeed, Allah is ever a Watcher over you" [Nisa 4:1], and the verse in al-Hashr, "Fear Allah, and let every soul look to what it has sent forth for tomorrow, and fear Allah" [Hashr 59:18].Then he said, "Let a man give in charity from his dinar, from his dirham, from his garment, from a sa of his wheat, from a sa of his dates," until he said, "even half a date."A man from the Ansar then came with a bundle so heavy that his hand could barely carry it, indeed it was unable to. Then the people followed one after another until I saw two heaps, one of food and one of clothes. I saw the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ glowing as if it were gilded with gold. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever establishes a good practice in Islam will have its reward and the reward of all who act upon it after him, without any of their rewards being diminished. And whoever establishes an evil practice in Islam will bear its burden and the burden of all who act upon it after him, without any of their burdens being diminished."
Muslim narrated it in Zakat (1017) from Muhammad bin Muthanna Anazi, who said, Muhammad bin Jafar informed us, who said, Shuba narrated to us, from Awn bin Abu Juhayfa, from Munzir bin Jareer, from his father, who said, then he mentioned it.
