Ayesha said to me, "My nephew, the people were commanded to seek forgiveness for the companions of the Prophet ﷺ, yet instead they have reviled them."
قالت لي عائشة: يا ابن أختي، أمروا أن يستغفروا لأصحاب النبي ﷺ فسبوهم.
Muslim narrated it in the Tafsir (3022) through several routes from Hisham bin Urwa, from his father, and he mentioned it. Qadi Iyad said, "It appears that she said this when she heard the people of Egypt saying what they said about Uthman, the people of Syria saying what they said about Ali, and the Kharijites saying what they said about all of them. As for the command to seek forgiveness that she referred to, it is His saying, Most High,"And those who came after them say, 'Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith'" [Hashr 59:10]."Chapter on His saying, "O you who believe, fear Allah, and let every soul look to what it has sent forth for tomorrow, and fear Allah, for Allah is well aware of what you do" [Hashr 59:18].His saying, "and let every soul look to what it has sent forth for tomorrow" means, let each one of you look at what he has stored up for himself of righteous deeds for the Day of Resurrection. This has come in the Sahih.
