A man reported,

The disbelievers of Quraysh wrote to Abdullah bin Ubayy bin Salul and to those among the Aws and Khazraj who worshipped idols, while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was at that time in Medina, before the Battle of Badr. They wrote, "You have given refuge to our companion. You are the most numerous people of Medina. We swear by Allah that you must either kill him or expel him, otherwise we will rally the Arabs against you and march against you with our entire force until we kill your fighters and take your women as captives."When this message reached Abdullah bin Ubayy and the idol worshippers with him, they corresponded with one another, gathered together, and resolved to fight the Prophet ﷺ and his companions. When this news reached the Prophet ﷺ, he met them in a gathering and said, "The threats of Quraysh have reached the utmost limit against you. Quraysh could not plot against you with anything worse than what you intend to plot against yourselves. You are about to fight your own sons and brothers."When they heard this from the Prophet ﷺ, they dispersed. News of this reached the disbelievers of Quraysh, and then the Battle of Badr took place. After Badr, the disbelievers of Quraysh wrote to the Jews, saying, "You possess weapons and fortresses. You must fight our companion, otherwise we will do such and such, and nothing will stand between us and the anklets of your women," meaning the khalakhil. When their letter reached the Jews, Banu Nadir resolved upon treachery. They sent word to the Prophet ﷺ, saying, "Come out to us with thirty of your companions, and we will come out with thirty of our rabbis, and we will meet at a certain place halfway between us. Let them hear from you. If they believe you and accept your faith, we will all believe."So the Prophet ﷺ went out with thirty of his companions, and thirty rabbis of the Jews came out to meet him. When they reached an open stretch of land, some of the Jews said to others, "How will you get to him when he has thirty companions with him, every one of whom would love to die before him?" So they sent word to him, "How can we understand each other when we are sixty men? Come out with three of your companions, and three of our scholars will come out to you. Let them hear from you, and if they believe you, we will all believe and accept you as truthful."The Prophet ﷺ went out with three of his companions, while the Jews concealed daggers and intended to assassinate the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. A sincere woman from Banu Nadir sent word to her brother's son, who was a Muslim man from the Ansar, informing him of what Banu Nadir intended to do in betraying the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Her brother hurried until he reached the Prophet ﷺ and whispered to him about their plot before the Prophet ﷺ reached them. So the Prophet ﷺ returned. The next morning, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came against them with troops and besieged them. He said to them, "You will have no security with me except by a covenant you make with me." They refused to give him any covenant, so he and the Muslims fought them that day.The following morning, he marched with cavalry and troops against Banu Qurayzah, leaving Banu Nadir aside, and called Banu Qurayzah to make a covenant with him. They made the covenant, and he turned away from them. Then he marched against Banu Nadir with his troops and fought them until they surrendered on terms of exile, on the condition that they could take whatever their camels could carry except for weapons. So Banu Nadir came and loaded onto their camels whatever belongings they could carry, including the doors of their houses and their timbers. They would demolish their own houses, tearing them down and carrying off whatever timber suited them. That exile was the first gathering of people to Sham. Banu Nadir were from one of the tribes of the Children of Israil, who had not been struck with exile since Allah had decreed exile upon the Children of Israil. That is why the Messenger of Allah ﷺ exiled them. Had Allah not decreed exile upon them, He would have punished them in this world as Banu Qurayzah were punished. Then Allah revealed, "Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth glorifies Allah, and He is the Mighty, the Wise" [Hashr 59:1], up to His saying, "And Allah has power over all things" [Hashr 59:2].The palm trees of Banu Nadir belonged exclusively to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Allah had given them to him and reserved them for him alone, as He said, "And whatever Allah restored to His Messenger from them, you did not spur on for it any horse or camel" [Hashr 59:6], meaning, without fighting. The Prophet ﷺ gave most of it to the Muhajirun and divided it among them, along with two men of the Ansar who were in need. He did not allot any share to any other man from the Ansar besides those two. What remained of it became the charitable endowment of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, which stayed in the hands of Fatimah's descendants.
