I was sitting with the Prophet ﷺ when an Arabi came and said, "Messenger of Allah, I hear you mention in Paradise a tree that I know to be among the thorniest of trees," meaning the talh tree.The Prophet ﷺ said, "Indeed, Allah will make its fruit like the matted he-goat," meaning the castrated one, "and inside it will be seventy varieties of food, no one resembling another."
كنت جالسا مع النبي ﷺ، فجاء أعرابي، فقال: يا رسول الله، أسمعك تذكر في الجنة شجرة لا أعلم أكثر شوكا منها يعني الطلح، فقال: التيس الملبود يعني الخصي، فيها سبعون لونا من الطعام لا يشبه لون آخر.
Reported by Tabarani in al-Kabir (17/130), from Abu Zura Abdul-Rahman bin Amr Dimashqi, who said, Abu Mishar and Muhammad bin Mubarak Sawri narrated to us, they said, Yahya bin Hamza narrated to us, Thawr bin Yazid narrated to me, from Habib bin Ubayd, from Utba bin Abdul-Sulami, who said, then he mentioned it. Its isnad is sahih.Haythami said in al-Majma (10/414), "Tabarani narrated it, and its narrators are the narrators of al-Sahih."Some scholars said, regarding "and layered banana trees" [Waqiah 56:29], that it means bananas, the singular of which is talha. "Layered" means stacked one upon another. This was narrated from Ibn Abbas and Ali bin Abu Talib.As for his saying, "and extended shade" [Waqiah 56:30], it means a permanent shade that never ends, extended meaning uninterrupted.
