The companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say, "Allah benefits us through the Bedouins and their questions."One day, a Bedouin came forward and said, "Messenger of Allah, Allah has mentioned in the Quran a tree that causes harm. I never thought there could be in Paradise a tree that would harm the one beside it."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Which tree is that?"The Bedouin replied, "The lote tree, for it has thorns."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Among thornless lote trees" [Waqiah 56:28]. Allah will strip away its thorns, and in place of every thorn He will set a fruit. It will bring forth fruits, each fruit splitting open into seventy-two colors, no one color resembling another.
Hakim (2/476) narrated it, and Bayhaqi related it from him in Al-Bath wal-Nushur (264), from Abu Abbas Muhammad bin Yaqub, who said, Rabi bin Sulayman told us, who said, Bishr bin Bakr told us, who said, Safwan bin Amr told us, from Salim bin Amir, from Abu Umama, who said, and then he mentioned it. Hakim said, "The isnad is sahih," and it is as he said.
