Muslim narrated it in Hayd (322) from Amr bin Dinar, from Abu Shatha, from Ibn Abbas, and he related it. In another version of his, from Amr bin Dinar, he said, "To the best of my knowledge, and what comes to mind, is that Abu Shatha informed me that Ibn Abbas informed him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perform ghusl with the water left over by Maymuna" (323). So he placed the hadith among the narrations of Ibn Abbas.Bukhari narrated it in Ghusl (253) from Ibn Abbas, that the Prophet ﷺ and Maymuna used to perform ghusl from a single vessel, thus placing the hadith among the narrations of Ibn Abbas. This is how Bukhari narrated it from his teacher Abu Naeem, who said, "Ibn Uyayna narrated to us, from Amr bin Dinar, from Jabir bin Zayd, from Ibn Abbas." Then Bukhari said, "Ibn Uyayna would later say, 'from Ibn Abbas, from Maymuna.' But the sahih version is what Abu Naeem narrated."This shows that Ibn Uyayna was uncertain whether the hadith belonged among the narrations of Ibn Abbas or among those of Maymuna, though the outcome is the same. Ibn Abbas would not have witnessed the Prophet ﷺ in the state of performing ghusl together with Maymuna, which indicates that he took the report from her.Something of the same meaning is what was narrated from Umm Hani, that the Prophet ﷺ and Maymuna performed ghusl from a single vessel, a large bowl that still bore traces of dough. Ibn Majah narrated it (378), as did Nasai (240), Ibn Khuzayma (240), Ibn Hibban (1245), and Bayhaqi (7/1-8), all of them by way of Ibrahim bin Nafi al-Madani, from Ibn Abu Najeeh, from Mujahid, from Umm Hani, who related it.I say, its chain is daif because of a break in transmission, for Mujahid did not hear directly from Umm Hani, as stated by Bukhari, Tirmidhi, Bayhaqi, and others.Bayhaqi said, "It has also been said, 'from Mujahid, from Abu Fakhita, from Umm Hani,' and what we have narrated, despite its being disconnected, is more sahih."I say, this is because its chain contains Kharija bin Musab, who is discredited.
