The Arabs used to serve one another during their travels. A man was traveling with Abu Bakr and Umar, serving them, and one day he fell asleep. When the two of them woke up, they found that he had not prepared any food. One of them remarked, "This man certainly sleeps a lot among you."They woke him up and said, "Go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and tell him that Abu Bakr and Umar send their greetings of peace and are asking him for some condiment to eat with their food."The man went and delivered the message. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Tell them that they have already had their condiment."The man returned with this reply, and the two were alarmed. They came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, we sent asking you for a condiment, and you said, 'They have already had their condiment.' What condiment have we eaten?"He replied, "By eating the flesh of your brother. I can see his flesh between your teeth."They said, "Messenger of Allah, ask forgiveness for us."He said, "Let him ask forgiveness for the two of you."
كانت العرب تخدم بعضها بعضا في الأسفار، وكان مع أبي بكر وعمر رجل يخدمهما فنام، فاستيقظا ولم يهيئ طعاما، فقال: إن هذا لنؤوم بينكم، فأيقظاه فقالا: انت رسول الله ﷺ فقل له: إن أبا بكر وعمر يقرئانك السلام، وهما يستأدمانك، فأتاه فقال: أخبر هما أنهما قد ائتدما ففزعا، فجاءا إلى النبي ﷺ، فقالا: يا رسول الله، بعثنا نستأدمك، فقلت: ائتدما فبأي شيء ائتدمنا؟ فقال: بأكلكما لحم أخيكما، إني لأرى لحمه بين ثناياكم فقالا: يا رسول الله فاستغفر لنا، قال: هو فليستغفر لكما.
Kharaiti related it in Masawi al-Akhlaq (186) and Diya Maqdisi in Al-Mukhtarah (1696, 1697), both through the route of Abu Badr Abbad bin Walid, who said, Habban bin Hilal narrated to us, who said, Hammad bin Salama narrated to us, who said, Thabit Bunani informed us, from Anas, who said, then he mentioned it.Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Abbad bin Walid Ghubari, for he is one whose hadith is hasan.
