The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to us at midday. Water was brought for him and he performed ablution, and the people began taking the leftover water from his ablution and wiping themselves with it. The Prophet ﷺ then prayed Dhuhr as two rakahs and Asr as two rakahs, with an Anazah placed in front of him.
خرج علينا رسول الله ﷺ بالهاجرة، فأتي بوضوء فتوضأ، فجعل الناس يأخذون من فضل وضوئه، ويتمسحون به، فصلى النبي ﷺ الظهر ركعتين، والعصر ركعتين، وبين يديه عنزة.
Bukhari related it in the Book of Wudu (187), under the heading "Using the leftover water from people's wudu." This is from the hadith of Shubah, who said, Hakam told us, saying, I heard Abu Juhayfa, and he mentioned it.In another version with Bukhari in the Book of Prayer (376) and Muslim in the Book of Prayer (503), by way of Umar bin Abu Zaida, from Awn bin Abu Juhayfa, that his father said, "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a red leather dome tent, and I saw Bilal take the water for the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ wudu, and I saw the people rushing to that water. Whoever got some of it rubbed it on himself, and whoever did not get any took from the moisture on his companion's hand. Then I saw Bilal take a spear and plant it in the ground, and the Prophet ﷺ came out wearing a red cloak, with his garment tucked up, and led the people in prayer, two rakats, facing the spear. And I saw people and animals passing between him and the spear."His saying, "with his garment tucked up," means raising his garment to the middle of his shins, as is mentioned in another version with Muslim, "It is as if I can see the whiteness of his shins."
