I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of the Conquest mounted on his she-camel, reciting Surah al-Fath, or part of Surah al-Fath. He drew out his recitation in a wavering tone. Then Muawiya recited, imitating the recitation of Ibn Mughafal, and said, "Were it not that the people would crowd around you, I would have drawn out the recitation just as Ibn Mughafal did, imitating the Prophet ﷺ."I asked Muawiya, "How did he draw it out?"He replied, "Aaa, three times."
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Tawhid (7540) and Muslim narrated it in the Prayer of the Traveler (794: 237), both of them through the route of Shuba, from Muawiya bin Qurra, from Abdullah bin Mughafal, who related it.
