Bukhari related it in the Tafsir (4819), and Muslim in the Jumuah (871), both of them through the route of Sufyan bin Uyayna, from Amr, who heard Ataa reporting, from Safwan bin Yaala, and so on as he mentioned it, and the wording is Bukhari's.His saying, "And they will call, 'O Malik'" [Zukhruf 43:77], means they call out to the keeper of the Fire. And his saying, "Let your Lord put an end to us" [Zukhruf 43:77], means let your Lord decree death for us so that we may find rest from the punishment. And his saying, "He will say, 'You will remain'" [Zukhruf 43:77], means death will not be decreed for you, rather you will remain in the everlasting punishment.It has been reported in some narrations that the people of the Fire call out to Malik, the keeper of the Fire, and he does not answer them for forty years, then he says, "You will remain." However, this is only reported as stopping at Abdullah bin Amr bin As.Haythami said in al-Majma (10/396), "Tabarani related it, and its narrators are the narrators of the sahih."
