Abdullah bin Masud reported,
The Prophet ﷺ said, "None of you should say, 'I am better than Yunus bin Matta.'"In another narration, "It is not fitting for anyone to claim that he is better than Yunus bin Matta."

His saying, "And indeed Yunus was among the messengers. When he fled to the laden ship, and he drew lots and was among the losers, and the fish swallowed him while he was blameworthy. And had he not been of those who glorify Allah, he would have remained in its belly until the Day they are resurrected." Yunus is Ibn Matta, and in Hebrew he is Yonan bin Amtai, and there is a book in the Old Testament named after him. In summary, he was from the prophets of the Children of Israil, born in Palestine after the invasion of Bayt al-Maqdis by Nebuchadnezzar, and he was commanded to go to the city of Nineveh in Iraq, located east of the Tigris opposite the city of Mosul, because there were more than one hundred thousand Jews who remained captive in the hands of the Assyrians. However, he left them in anger before he was given permission, and what happened to him happened as mentioned in the Quran in Surah Nisa, Anam, Yunus, and Saffat. The whale swallowed him in the Roman Sea at the port of Jaffa when Yunus

Bukhari reported it in the chapters on the prophets (3412) via Sufyan, who said, Amash narrated to me, from Abu Waail, from Abdullah bin Masud, and he mentioned it.The second narration was reported by Bukhari in the tafsir (4804) from Qutayba bin Saeed, who said, Jareer narrated to us, from Amash, with the same chain.
