The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was at one of the battles when his finger began to bleed. He said, "You are nothing but a finger that has bled, and what you have suffered is in the path of Allah."
أن رسول الله ﷺ كان في بعض المشاهد، وقد دميت إصبعه، فقال: هل أنت إلا إصبع دميت وفي سبيل الله ما لقيت.
Bukhari related it in the Book of Jihad and Expeditions (2802), and Muslim in the Book of Jihad and Expeditions (1796), both through the route of Abu Awana, from Aswad bin Qays, from Jundab bin Sufyan, who narrated it. Likewise, he recited some verses of poetry belonging to someone else, in the presence of the companions.
