They were with Hudhayfah when he asked for water, and a Magian brought him a drink. When the cup was placed in his hand, he threw it at him and said, "Had I not forbidden him from this more than once or twice," as if to say, "I would not have done this, but I heard the Prophet ﷺ say, 'Do not wear silk or brocade, and do not drink from vessels of gold and silver, nor eat from their plates, for they are for them in this world and for us in the Hereafter.'"
ى، أنهم كانوا عند حذيفة، فاستسقى، فسقاه مجوسي، فلما وضع القدح في يده رماه به، وقال: لولا أني نهيته غير مرة ولا مرتين، كأنه يقول: لم أفعل هذا، ولكني سمعت النبي ﷺ يقول: لا تلبسوا الحرير ولا الديباج، ولا تشربوا في آنية الذهب والفضة، ولا تأكلوا في صحافها، فإنها لهم في الدنيا ولنا في الآخرة.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Foods (5426), and Muslim in the Book of Clothing and Adornment (2067), both through the route of Mujahid, who said, "Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Layla narrated to me," and he related it. The wording given is Bukhari's, and Muslim did not present his wording with this chain of transmission.
