The Prophet ﷺ said, "Shall I not tell you of the best of your deeds, the purest of them in the sight of your Sovereign, the highest of them in raising your ranks, better for you than spending gold and silver, and better for you than meeting your enemy so that you strike their necks and they strike yours?"They replied, "Yes, please do."He said, "The remembrance of Allah the Exalted."Muaz bin Jabal then said, "Nothing saves a person from the punishment of Allah more than the remembrance of Allah."
قال النبي ﷺ: ألا أنبئكم بخير أعمالكم، وأزكاها عند مليككم، وأرفعها في درجاتكم، وخير لكم من إنفاق الذهب والورق، وخير لكم من أن تلقوا عدوكم فتضربوا أعناقهم ويضربوا أعناقكم. قالوا: بلي. قال: ذكر الله تعالى. فقال معاذ بن جبل: ما شيء أنجى من عذاب الله من ذكر الله.
Tirmidhi (3377), Ibn Majah (3790), and Ahmad (21702) narrated it, and Hakim graded it sahih (1/496), all of them through various routes from Abdullah bin Saeed bin Abu Hind, from Ziyad bin Abu Ziyad, the client of Ibn Ayyash, from Abu Bahriya (that is, Abdullah bin Qays), from Abu Darda, who related it.Its chain is hasan because of Abdullah bin Saeed bin Abu Hind, for there is disagreement about him, though he is hasan al-hadith. The hadiths mentioning the remembrance of Allah are numerous and are recorded in the book of Supplications and Remembrances.
