The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "On the night of my ascent, I passed by a people whose lips were being clipped with shears of fire."I asked, "Who are these?"They replied, "Preachers from among the people of the world who used to command others to do good while forgetting themselves, even as they recited the Book. Did they not reason?"
Ahmad (12211) narrated it from Waki, who said, Hammad bin Salama narrated to us, from Ali bin Zayd, from Anas, and he related the hadith. This chain is daif due to the weakness of Ali bin Zayd, who is Ibn Jadan, but it has a corroborating narration. Abu Yaala (4069) narrated it through Mutamir bin Sulayman, and Abu Naeem in al-Hilyah (8/172) narrated it through Ibn Mubarak, both of them from Sulayman Taymi, from Anas, and both chains are sahih. Ibn Hibban (53) also narrated it through another route from Anas, and he graded it sahih.
