Anas bin Malik reported,

Zayd bin Haritha came complaining, and the Prophet ﷺ kept saying to him, "Fear Allah and keep your wife."Ayesha said, "Had the Messenger of Allah ﷺ been one to conceal anything, he would have concealed this verse."She said, "Zaynab used to boast over the other wives of the Prophet ﷺ, saying, 'Your families gave you in marriage, but Allah Most High gave me in marriage from above the seven heavens.'"Thabit reported that the verse "And you concealed within yourself that which Allah was to disclose, and you feared the people" [Ahzab 33:37] was revealed concerning the matter of Zaynab bint Jahsh and Zayd bin Haritha.

عن أنس قال

جاء زيد بن حارثة يشكو فجعل النبي ﷺ يقول له: اتق الله وأمسك عليك زوجك قالت عائشة: لو كان رسول الله ﷺ كاتما شيئا لكتم هذه. قال: فكانت زينب تفخر على أزواج النبي ﷺ تقول: زوجكن أهاليكن، وزوجني الله تعالى من فوق سبع سماوات. وعن ثابت: {وتخفي في نفسك ما الله مبديه وتخشى الناس} نزلت في شان زينب ابنة جحش وزيد بن حارثة.

His saying, "And when you said to the one whom Allah had blessed and whom you had favored, 'Keep your wife and fear Allah,' while you concealed within yourself what Allah was to disclose, and you feared the people, but Allah is more worthy that you fear Him. So when Zayd had no longer any need for her, We married her to you so that there would be no discomfort upon the believers concerning the wives of their adopted sons when they no longer have any need for them. And the command of Allah is always fulfilled."
