The Prophet ﷺ proposed on behalf of Julaybib to a woman from the Ansar, asking her father for her hand. Her father said, "Let me consult her mother."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Very well, then."The man went to his wife and told her about it. She said, "No, by Allah, never! Could the Messenger of Allah ﷺ find no one but Julaybib? We have already refused her to so-and-so and so-and-so."The girl was behind her curtain listening. The man set off intending to inform the Prophet ﷺ of this, but the girl said, "Do you want to reject the command of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? If he has approved of him for you, then marry me to him."It was as though her words freed her parents from their hesitation, and they said, "You have spoken truly."Her father went to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "If you have approved of him, then we approve of him too."The Prophet ﷺ said, "I have indeed approved of him." So he married her to him. Then the people of Madinah were alarmed by an attack, and Julaybib rode out. They later found him slain, with a number of polytheists killed around him by his hand.Anas said, "I saw her, and she was among the most generously provided-for widows in Madinah."
Ahmad (12393) and Ibn Hibban (4059) both narrated it through the route of Abdul-Razzaq, and it is in his Musannaf (10333), he said, Muammar narrated to us, from Thabit Bunani, from Anas, who related it. Its chain of transmission is sahih. Haythami said in Majma (9/368), "The men of Ahmad are the men of the Sahih."His statement, "the people of Madinah were alarmed," seems to indicate that his killing took place in Madinah. But the correct view is that it happened during one of the military expeditions, as in the coming hadith of Abu Barza Aslami. So what is meant by "the people of Madinah" is that they were people of Madinah who happened to be present at that expedition and knew him.
