The Prophet ﷺ was in her house when Fatimah came to him with a pot containing khazirah. She entered with it, and he said to her, "Call your husband and your two sons."She said, Ali, Hasan, and Husayn came and entered upon him, and they sat eating from that khazirah. He was resting on a couch upon a bench, beneath him a Khaybar cloak. She said, I was praying in the chamber when Allah revealed this verse, "Allah only wishes to remove all impurity from you, people of the household, and to purify you completely" [Ahzab 33:33].She said, He took the remaining part of the cloak and covered them with it. Then he stretched out his hand, raising it toward the sky, and said, "O Allah, these are the people of my household and my closest ones, so remove from them all impurity and purify them completely. O Allah, these are the people of my household and my closest ones, so remove from them all impurity and purify them completely."She said, I put my head into the room and said, "Am I with you too, Messenger of Allah?"He replied, "You are upon goodness, you are upon goodness."
Ahmad (26508) narrated it from Abdullah bin Numayr, who said, Abdul-Malik, meaning Ibn Abu Sulayman, told us, from Ata bin Abu Rabah, who said, Someone who heard Umm Salama told me, and she said, then he related the hadith. Abdul-Malik said, Abu Layla also told me, from Umm Salama, similar to the hadith of Ata.Hakim (2/416) narrated it through another route from Sharik bin Abu Nimr, from Ata bin Yasar, from Umm Salama, in shortened form. He said, "Sahih according to the standard of Bukhari." Dhahabi said, "According to the standard of Muslim."I say, its chain of transmission is hasan because of Abdul-Malik bin Abu Sulayman, for there is some discussion about his memory, but he is corroborated in Hakim's version as mentioned above.Tirmidhi (3871) narrated it through another route from Shahr bin Hawshab, from Umm Salama, in shortened form. There is well-known discussion about Shahr bin Hawshab, but he is acceptable in corroborating narrations. Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan sahih hadith, and it is among the best things narrated on this subject."
