"There is no blame upon you whether you eat together or separately" [Nur 24:61]. This was because when Allah revealed "You who believe, do not consume one another's wealth unjustly" [Nisa 4:29], the Muslims said, "Allah has forbidden us to consume one another's wealth unjustly, and food is among the most valuable kinds of wealth, so it is not lawful for any of us to eat at another's home." So people refrained from doing that, and afterward Allah revealed "There is no blame upon the blind" up to "or those whose keys you hold" [Nur 24:61].
{ليس عليكم جناح أن تأكلوا جميعا أو أشتاتا} وذلك لما أنزل الله: {يأيها الذين ءامنوا لا تأكلوا أموالكم بينكم بالباطل}[سورة النساء: ٢٩]، فقال المسلمون: إن الله قد نهانا أن نأكل أموالنا بيننا بالباطل، والطعام من أفضل الأموال، فلا يحل لأحد منا أن يأكل عند أحد، فكف الناس عن ذلك، فأنزل الله بعد ذلك: {ليس على الأعمى حرج} إلى قوله: {أو ما ملكتم مفاتحه}

Ibn Jareer Tabari related it in his Tafsir (17/366), and Ibn Abu Hatim related it in his Tafsir (8/2648), both of them by way of Abdullah bin Salih, who said, Muawiya bin Salih narrated to me, from Ali bin Abu Talha, from Ibn Abbas, and he mentioned it.Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Ali bin Abu Talha. Although he transmits from Ibn Abbas through an intermediary without naming him, the intermediary is known, and Ali bin Abu Talha himself is truthful. Likewise, Abdullah bin Salih is hasan al-hadith.
