The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Eat olive oil and anoint yourselves with it, for it comes from a blessed tree."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: كلوا الزيت، وادهنوا به، فإنه من شجرة مباركة.
Tirmidhi (1851), Ibn Majah (1319), Hakim (4/122), and Diya in al-Mukhtarah (8283) all narrated it through various routes from Abdul-Razzaq, from Maamar, from Zayd bin Aslam, from his father, from Umar bin Khattab, who mentioned it. The discussion of it is elaborated in the Book of Foods.His saying, "neither of the east nor of the west" [Nur 24:35], means that it stands in an elevated, open place, not shaded by any mountain, tree, or cave, and nothing conceals it, so the sun reaches it from the beginning of the day to its end. That produces the best quality, clarity, and purity of its oil.His saying, "Allah guides to His light whom He wills" [Nur 24:35], means that Allah directs to His guidance those whom He chooses from among His servants and grants them success in attaining it, as mentioned in the hadith.
