Musaykah, a slave-girl belonging to one of the Ansar, came and said, "My master is forcing me into prostitution." So this verse was revealed concerning that, "And do not compel your slave-girls to prostitution" [Nur 24:33].
جاءت مسيكة- أمة لبعض الأنصار- فقالت: إن سيدي يكرهني على البغاء، فنزل في ذلك: {ولا تكرهوا فتيتكم على البغآء}
Abu Dawud (2311), Nasai in Kubra (11301), and Hakim (2/397) all narrated it through the route of Ibn Jurayj, who said, Abu Zubayr informed me that he heard Jabir say, and then he related it. Its chain is hasan because of Abu Zubayr, for his hadith is hasan. Hakim said, "This is a sahih hadith according to the standard of Muslim."Something similar in meaning was reported from Ibn Abbas concerning the word of Allah, "And do not force your slave girls into prostitution" [Nur 24:33]. He said, it was revealed concerning Abdullah bin Abu, who had a slave girl whom he used to force into fornication, so Allah revealed, "For indeed, Allah, after their compulsion, is forgiving and merciful" [Nur 24:33]. Bazzar narrated it in his Musnad (5120) from Ishaq bin Shahin Wasiti, who said, Khalid bin Abdullah narrated to us, from Ata bin Saaib, from Saeed bin Jubayr, from Ibn Abbas, and then he related it. In its chain is Ata bin Saaib, who suffered memory confusion in his later years. Khalid Tahhan reported from him after this confusion set in.It was also narrated by Ibn Abu Hatim in his Tafsir (8/2589), and Tabarani in Kabir (11/284), both through the route of Sulayman bin Dawud, who said, Sulayman bin Muaz narrated to us, from Simak bin Harb, from Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas, who said, Abdullah bin Abu had a slave girl who used to fornicate during the pre-Islamic era. When fornication was made forbidden, he said to her, "Will you not fornicate?" She said, "No, by Allah, I will never fornicate again." So the verse was revealed, "And do not force your slave girls into prostitution" [Nur 24:33]. In the chain is Simak bin Harb, and his narration from Ikrima in particular is inconsistent, and this narration is one such instance.This noble verse contains a prohibition against forcing slave girls into indecent acts for the sake of earning money, for this is forbidden, as has come in the sahih.
